More than 80% of otitis externa arise during the summer. The continuous exposure to humidity at beaches and swimming pools increases their frequency.

Otitis is an inflammation of the ear that can affect the outer and middle ear. The most common are otitis externa or swimmer's ear, which affect the skin of the ear canal. These are inflammatory processes and infections of the outer ear, generally caused by bacterial infections.

Symptoms of otitis
  • Pain of varying intensity
  • Fever
  • Plugged ear
  • In some cases, mucopurulent discharge
How to prevent it
  • Avoid contact with contaminated water in the ears. Do not bathe in untreated swimming pools or in places with stagnant water.
  • Do not clean your ears with sharp objects. Use swabs only on the outermost part of the ear.
  • Earplugs or shower caps can reduce the possibility of water entering the ears.
  • After each bath, dry the outside of the ear and the entrance of the ear canal thoroughly.
Natural ear for ear care

In nature, we can find plants and substances with beneficial properties to support ear health.

  • Mullein (Verbascum thapus L): especially its flowers have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
  • Propolis: this viscous substance produced by bees has prophylactic properties, which makes our body more resistant to infections or external aggression. It also has antiseptic properties, so it helps protect the skin against fungi and bacteria.
  • Cajeput (Melaleuca leucadendron): its leaves are rich in cineol, which provides antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Lemon (Citrus limon): its fruit, rich in limonene, is used for its antiseptic, bactericidal and pain relieving action.
