Quercus robur L

Description

Big tree, up to 45 m high; thick trunk; grayish-brown bark, deeply grooved with long and extended branches. Leaves are caducous 5-12 cm, obovate with 5-7 pairs of round and marked lobes, auriculate at the base (which gives them a heart-like shape), glabrous on both sides, when mature. Flowers are female inserted at the leave axil. Fruits are long pedunculated acorns grouped in 1-5; cupule with puberulent flakes, oval-shaped and imbricate.

It is original from Europe. It’s found isolated or in mixed forests, especially in compacted soil.

Part used

The bark of young branches.

Indications

Internal use

  • Diarrhea.
  • Cystitis, urinary lithiasis, nocturnal enuresis.
  • Metrorrhagia.

External use

  • Skin disorders, except in cases of extended lesions: wet eczema, chilblain, excessively sweaty feet.
  • On mucosa in cases of moderate inflammation: conjunctivitis, pharyngitis, vaginitis.
  • Hemorrhoids.
